Russell House (Built 2019)
Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California
Modern residential addition and renovation to an existing footprint on a ~6,700 sq.ft lot. The approximately 2,700 sq.ft home includes three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. The project integrates sustainable design strategies within a contemporary architectural framework.
Custom large-format windows establish strong indoor–outdoor connections, while a central sawtooth window introduces consistent north light into the living space. Ceiling heights range from approximately 14 to 19 feet, reinforcing spatial variation throughout the house. A five-foot-wide linear cut through the plan—referred to as “the street”—serves as a circulation spine inspired by narrow streets in Iran, expressed through glass panels and a linear bamboo planting to maintain transparency while creating a distinct spatial memory.
